A list from another region is a research starting point, not a ready-made shopping list.

Understand the context

The US Fish and Wildlife Service's Pollinator Garden Handbook discusses local plant selection and flowers available at different times. Its regional plant lists need interpretation for other places. Climate, available space and local knowledge belong alongside a planting idea.

Try a learning activity

Record light, space and other visible site conditions.

Make a seasonal chart before choosing plants.

Mark which recommendations belong to the source's region.

List questions to ask a suitable local gardening resource.

Reflect on the evidence

Compare your record with the source. Which details did you observe directly, which did you learn from the reading, and which remain uncertain? Keep those answers separate. Add the place, date and method when they are known; a short observation or a single photograph does not describe an entire landscape.

Reading source: USFWS — Pollinator Garden Handbook.

Learning activity prepared by Living Heritage.
