The story of protecting a monument is a process involving choices and cooperation. Reducing it to one dramatic action loses part of the history.

Understand the context

UNESCO describes the Nubian Monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae alongside the international campaign responding to rising Nile waters. The 1960-1980 campaign involved protecting different monuments. The account is wider than the statement that one temple was moved.

  1. Create a timeline using the campaign period in the source.
  2. Add separate spaces for monuments, decisions and cooperation.
  3. Identify which monument a photograph shows.
  4. Write one question about the work outside the famous image.
